Andrew Walsh, who owns the Millionhairs salon in Norden Village, is celebrating 40 years of working at the salon.

Millionhairs, which is located on Edenfield Road, offers hairdressing in a relaxing fashion and accommodates for both men and women.

Mr Walsh began working for the company in 1976, after initially just looking for something to do after his college exams. Eight years later, he bought the store following the unexpected passing of one of the co-owners, and has been there ever since.

“Norden was just a good place to be” he said. “I was quite happy keeping my clients well and looked after and it paid decently. Why would I leave?”

Whilst working at Millionhairs, Mr Walsh also enjoyed a fifteen-year spell as Chairman of Norden Environmental and Economic Village Association (NEEVA).

He said: “When I became chairman twenty years ago, things weren’t going as well as they are now – so we did what we could to promote Norden Village.

“This included hanging baskets on all the shops and organising a Christmas light switch on with markets at Norden Bowling & Social club.”

These events still happen each year, and with Mr Walsh still being actively involved with the association, he will host Father Christmas at his store on Thursday 24 November.

“It’s been great to have been part of the Norden community all these years” he said. “I hope I can continue to play my part.”
